Jubilee Finale: ‘Go Forward’

Sunday morning service had a tough act to follow. After all, this last day of our Jubilee Week came on the heels of a fabulous evening of celebration at the Marriott Crabtree Marriott. What could possibly top that? For starters, a $25,000 gift to our Tree of Life fund that effectively doubled our pledge-drive goal. Right after the blessing of the offering – during which the Intercessors Choir sang “God’s Got a Blessing (With Your Name On It)” – Sisters Danaka and Cheri Walker surprised Apostle Phillip Anthony Walker and the entire congregation with an oversized check for $25,000...

JUBILEE 2012: The Feel-Good Celebration of the Year!

What. A. Night. More than 150 members and guests filled the Crabtree Marriott’s Grand Ballroom Saturday for an exciting and energizing evening of praise and celebration of Mt. Pleasant Worship & Outreach Center’s 50th anniversary – our Year of Jubilee. Mt. Pleasantonians had only praise for Saturday night’s signature event, our Year of Jubilee Banquet Celebration. From silk suits to sequined shoes, we shined in our finest, laughing and smiling, hugging and posing as we shared our happiness with one another. From crab cakes to cheesecakes, we ate our fill while reflecting on our past and looking toward our...

Bishop Peterkin had us cheering V-I-C-T-O-R-Y

Did you know that it was at Bright Hope Divine Holy Church of God that our Apostle was saved many years ago? That was just one of many revelations shared during Friday’s Jubilee celebration by Apostle Walker and Bishop Verna L. Peterkin, our guest speaker for the evening. And what an eventful evening it was as Bishop Peterkin spoke about this being Mt. Pleasant’s year of “explosive release”: “I hear the sound of the trumpet,” she said, “and I hear the praises going up!” Bright Hope is also celebrating 50 years, noted Bishop Peterkin. Her main message was one...

Apostle Tillery’s message of ‘prophetic restoration’ gets Jubilee Celebration off to a rousing start

It’s our Year of Jubilee, and Apostle Matthew Tillery had us all shouting about it last night, the first night of our 50th anniversary celebration. “I believe we are moving into a season where God is about to show off,” said Apostle Tillery, of Tri-Faith Ministries in Rocky Mount. This move, this “prophetic restoration” as Apostle Tillery defined it, has nothing to do with the works of the church or the congregation, he said. “He’s just bringing you into what already exists in the realm of the spirit.” It was a night of praise and rejoicing along with members...

What an amazing weekend of Pastoral Anniversary celebrations!

At Bible Study last Wednesday, Apostle Walker talked about greatness. “Greatness without God is celebrity.  . . .  Satan always offers a crown without a price,” he said. “Celebrity dies with the person. But when you serve, you become great, and you’re always remembered.” This weekend’s services of appreciation for Apostle Walker’s 18th Pastoral Anniversary clearly showed that the MPWOC’s leader  is truly great and well-loved, as is Co-Pastor Vickie Walker, who celebrates 13 years of ministry. Bishop Howard V. Winston, cloaked in red regalia, kicked off the celebration Friday night: “This guy is no ordinary guy,” said the pastor...

Jubilee banquet MYSTERY . . .

DATELINE, RALEIGH: This reporter has just learned that the Year of Jubilee Banquet and Celebration committee is planning something special for banquet guests, and that Apostle Walker is plotting something as well. When asked, committee chair Casanova Womack just silently stared at this reporter, and Apostle Walker asked, “Shouldn’t you be reading your Bible?” The plot thickens . . .  Stay tuned to this website, and be sure to get your tickets before they’re all gone!...

AUGUST 10 and 12: Pastors Appreciation Services

The pressures faced by Apostle Phillip Walker and Co-Pastor Vickie Walker are incredible. They are expected to lead flawless lives, always be available and to have all the answers we need, no matter the questions. They live in a glass house, their lives visible to the entire congregation and the community. If either of them seems a little down or even weary, we’re disappointed. Who among us could withstand such pressure? And yet these are the unrealistic expectations we place on these servants of God. It’s time to recognize and appreciate all they do for us, the way God...
