What. A. Night.
More than 150 members and guests filled the Crabtree Marriott’s Grand Ballroom Saturday for an exciting and energizing evening of praise and celebration of Mt. Pleasant Worship & Outreach Center’s 50th anniversary – our Year of Jubilee.
Mt. Pleasantonians had only praise for Saturday night’s signature event, our Year of Jubilee Banquet Celebration. From silk suits to sequined shoes, we shined in our finest, laughing and smiling, hugging and posing as we shared our happiness with one another. From crab cakes to cheesecakes, we ate our fill while reflecting on our past and looking toward our future, all while Lydia Salett & Friends entertained us with an extraordinary mix of gospel and jazz.
The Year of Jubilee is a time of joy and a time of remission of sins, of which Bishop Dr. Haywood Parker spoke so eloquently. Dr. Parker, of Truth Tabernacle Ministries in Rocky Mount, was the night’s guest speaker, and there were several other distinguished guests. Among them: Pastor Clarence Ratcliff of True Praise And Deliverance Tabernacle in Raleigh, and Pastor Royce Hathcock of Neighbor to Neighbor Outreach/Tapestry Church of the Nazarene in Raleigh.
The highlight of the evening was the video montage “We Are Mt. Pleasant”, which chronicled our church’s 50-year history from 1962 to the present. At times moving, at times humorous, it truly captured the essence of what our church and our mission is all about. Through a series of old photographs, favorite hymns and a detailed, historical text prepared by Apostle Phillip Anthony Walker, much of which was written and verified by his mother, Pastor Lois Hinton, before her passing. The talented Trevon Nelson was instrumental in ensuring all the pieces flowed smoothly together in video form.
A hearty thank-you goes to the YOJ committee – Casanova and Antoinette Womack, Donna Wright, Carolyn Reed, Laurie Walker and Leslie Ansley – for paying attention to details both large and small that made the evening such a success. From the obvious – the logo, invitations, programs, the lovely centerpieces, mints and gift scrolls with the little brooms on them – to the not-so – the lighting, staging, sound, placement of big screens and overall ambiance – this group worked hard to make it all work. And a special note of thanks goes to Cassia Juanico for helping scan photos, print programs, assisting with the sound system and volunteering for any other tasks.
However, the biggest and best words of praise go to Apostle Walker who worked seemingly nonstop for months making sure every day of our celebration was filled with purpose and meaning.
We are so blessed.
We Are Mt. Pleasant!
