Sometimes, people tend to want to treat God as if He were a genie in a bottle. We want to rub the bottle and the genie will appear. Then after we get what we want, we want the genie back in the bottle until the next time. If you really think about it, the genie, of all people, would be the most powerful, but the most miserable.

Why? Because it performs without relationship! The person in charge who rubs the bottle will have the genie serve without love.

In the TV series I Dream of Jeannie, Major Nelson wanted a genie to perform while the genie wanted a relationship. This friction in their relationship formed the basis for the TV show.

God will never allow or go along with us treating Him like we are His master. It is of a truth that the lesser always serves the greater. God is not interested in performing for us, but He is genuinely interested in a relationship with us. His Word informs us in Matthew 6:33 to “seek the Kingdom of heaven and its righteousness and all things shall be added to us.”

Every kingdom has a king, and when you have a relationship with the king, all things in the kingdom are at your disposal. The real power of the Christian experience is not to treat God like a genie in a bottle, but to have a real relationship through Jesus Christ with Him.

In the meantime, we must condition ourselves to see God at work around us. He prepares a table for us, even in presence of evil.
